Calls for Participation
Anyone may join the Electric SEA hackathon or attend the showcase exhibition simply by registering for the event. Learn more about participating in the hackathon or volunteering for the event here. In addition, we have two calls for participation for potential workshop instructors and larger-scale project micro-grants that might require support to enable ambitious ideas. The deadline to submit proposals is Saturday, February 21st, 2026. Submission form links are below.
CALL FOR HACKATHON WORKSHOP INSTRUCTORS
ElectricSEA invites proposals for workshops taking place Thursday, Friday, or Saturday Mar 26-28 to provide participants new understanding of tools and techniques they can apply to their projects. Five to seven available stipends, up to $300 each, will be awarded to help offset workshop leaders’ time and materials costs (hardware, software, supplies), to enable innovative ideas to be explored and realized during the event.
Proposals should focus on teaching skills and tools immediately applicable to project development within the hackathon format. Workshops should be 2 to 4 hours, and expect around 8 to 12 participants, depending on space, time, and materials required. A workshop’s focus could be around: software, coding, craft, kinetic interactivity, fabrication, generative performance, data visualization, light art, sound art, concept and theme development, electronic hardware, mixed reality, physical computing, electronics, low-resource hardware, artistic technology toolbuilding, Internet of Things, conventional art media, or surprise us!
You can combine a workshop with a project micro-grant (see below) requesting up to $800 combined. Workshops can be a great way to seed a collaborative project.
If you are still early in developing your idea, apply anyway! We would love to see what you have in mind.
We hope to schedule most workshops for Thursday evening or Friday, so that attendees can focus on hackathon activities on Saturday.
Please fill out the application below by Saturday, February 21st 2026, to be considered for one of these grants. Notifications will be sent out by Monday, March 2nd, 2026.

CALL FOR HACKATHON PROJECT MICRO GRANT APPLICANTS
ElectricSEA invites proposals for micro grants to support projects developed onsite during the event, and demo’d at our showcase exhibition Saturday evening March 28th. Five to seven available grants, up to $500 each, will be awarded to help offset participants’ materials costs (hardware, software, supplies), to enable ambitious ideas to be explored and realized during the event. One grant will be given per project, which can have multiple participants.
We are especially interested in interdisciplinary art and design driven projects that draw upon a wide range of creative technologies and practices including creative code, interactive installation, data visualization, light-based projection, sound art, light art, wearables, performance-based and kinetic works, physical computing, electronics, generative systems, vibe coding, mixed reality, Internet of Things, ethical AI tools, and other emerging hybrid practices — surprise us!
Proposals need not describe a fully resolved outcome; in fact, projects that are open-ended, exploratory, and likely to evolve through inclusive/open collaboration during the hackathon are preferred.
In the spirit of hackathons, the emphasis is on experimentation, interdisciplinary collaboration, shared problem-solving, and learning by doing. Learn more about participating in the hackathon here.
There is a lot of space available that can accommodate a variety of project sizes over two floors, including wall space, floor space, installation rooms, and two stages. The bulk of the hackathon will be Friday and Saturday March 27-28, including our showcase exhibition Saturday evening, and time for takedown on Sunday.
Please fill out the application below by Saturday, February 21st 2026, to be considered for one of these grants. Notifications will be sent out by Monday, March 2nd, 2026.
